The Pioneer in British IT education since 1990 in Sri Lanka, Informatics Institute of Technology recently held it’s Foundation awards ceremony for the 8th consecutive time to recognize over 50 students who had successfully completed the Foundation Certificate in Higher Education.The Foundation Certificate in Higher Education has been positioned in the industry today as the ideal foundation entry route that provides a pathway to many foreign degrees in globally accredited universities.This also includes the prestigious and globally renowned degrees, the BEng (Hons) Software Engineering and BSc (Hons) Information Systems with Business Management from the University of Westminster. “With the education field transforming rapidly, the impact of new technologies are coming into effect every minute which has made a huge impact to how businesses operate.The mission of our institute has always been to harness talented individuals to meet this demand and develop professionals who will not only contribute to Sri Lanka’s businesses but also bring credit through designing innovative products and solutions that will benefits the industry. This occasion is a celebration of the success and achievement of such students”, Dean of IIT Assoc. Prof. Alfred Perera said while addressing the gathering at the ceremony. The Chief Guest at the ceremony was the General Manager of Cambio Healthcare Systems in Sri Lanka, Mr.Dharshana Jayawardena who was also a past student of IIT. Cambio is one of the largest healthcare system providers in Europe, with two offices in Sri Lanka that employs over 400 local software professionals. Mr. Jayawardena presented the certificates for distinction and merit passes and addressed the audience on the topic of “Defining success through Passion, Drive and Innovation”. “We live in a business world accelerating at a dizzying speed and teeming with ruthless competition. In such a scenario what is critical to success is having a clear vision, passion, drive and creativity, which is the invisible force that drives innovation which ultimately creates the currency of success”, he said. He outlined many examples of successful businesses personalities who had been passionate about driving change, creating effective organizations and designing innovative products that have changed both the face of industry and the life styles of people. He encouraged and motivated the graduates to think and do things differently, never give up on your dreams and live the life you want. The ceremony also stood testament to many accolades and achievements of IIT students’ performances in the fields of IT & Business Management. Some of the noteworthy successes were the star performers Savindra Perera, who topped the batch for September 2013 and Melissa Diaz who was the batch top for January 2014 .They both received their awards from Mr.Hasith Wickramasinghe, the Deputy Chairman of Informatics Group of Companies and the CEO of IIT Dr.Sampath Kannangara. In addition , more than 20 students graduated with flying colours, where a majority of them excelled in obtaining some of the highest marks for each subject .This further demonstrated that the institute is still a strong leader in nurturing IT and business leaders of the future and is a prominent player in the educational development arena in the country.
