e-learning @ IIT offers a Diploma in Computing via e-learning. This includes learning through game based activities and interactive learning sessions via the web. The primary aim of the programme is to enable students to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them to progress to the next levels of study within the BSc Honours degree programmes. The detailed objectives are that students completing the course successfully will:

• Be able to apply the core mathematical techniques which are the tools of all scientific disciplines, as well as those specific to computing;

• Have developed basic programming skills in computing and communications;

• Have adequate knowledge of electronics & telecommunications to understand IT fully and apply it effectively in commercial applications;

• Have a broad knowledge of computer hardware and computer system software;

• Be able to use word-processing and other commercial applications packages;

• Have acquired an acceptable level of analytical and presentation skills;

• Have acquired the study skills and disciplines essential for degree level study;

• Have experience in designing web sites on the Internet;

• Have acquired an acceptable level in the area of accounting, economics and business.

Entry Requirements:

G.C.E. O/L with Credit passes in Mathematics and English or pending O/L results.

The course consists of 8 modules:

• Personal Computer Application

• Introduction to Database Systems

• Visual Basic Programming

• Business Management

• Mathematics for Computing and Business

• Elements of Electronics

• Communication Skills in English

• Digital Circuits and Logic Design

Students have found this course very useful as they can study in their own time at their own pace.

Students who do not have computer facilities in the homes can use the NODES ACCESS centers that are located around the country (NODES ACCESS CENTRES link to Nodes access centers) by registering on this course. NODES access centers provide resources such as computer internet access, printing and scanning facilities for registered students.
