For the last 18 years of the existence of IIT, since it's inception, it was only at the end of the year 2008 that I thought of coming up with a basketball team. Ever since I joined IIT in the year 2007, I saw a lot of potential athletes among the students.  This talent, I thought, should not go in vain. Therefore, I came up with the idea of forming the official basketball team of IIT after the inter-house basketball matches held for the sportsmeet of 2008.
As soon as this talented team was formed, I knew that we were doing the right thing. This was proved toa great extent as we swiftly achieved success after a very short time. This successful journey, although, was quite unexpected as most of the players in the team hadn't even watched basketball matches, let alone played!. But I believe that it was this fact that drove them to be so determined and interested to learn and play this beautiful sport in its purest form. It was all the effort put in and the passion for the game that built the strength as we did not even have a coach to guide us through it all.
Being the captain of the team, I can say that some of the players, as mentioned earlier, who have never even played a game of basketball before, are some of the best players in the team as it stands today.
As we had all this talent in our bag, we decided to organize an inter-institute invitational basketball tournament which comprised the following institutions:
- ACBT
- ANC
- SLIIT
- APIIT
- ICBT
We proved our new-born abilities during this tournament as we played and successfully reached the finals although we lost against ACBT in the final. But this is just a beginning, playing with some of the best teams around.
We hope to rise higher with talent, glory and success as one team and one spirit in the years to come.
