During the 25 years of excellence, the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT Campus) has produced over 3,000 graduates that have empowered nearly 250 multinational and local blue-chip companies.

Since its inception as a pioneer higher education institute in Sri Lanka that offers internal British degrees in the disciplines of Information Technology and Business, many IIT graduates have annexed themselves in eminent positions by being innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Around this time last year, young Nimashi Perera who is a past pupil of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya was a final year undergraduate at IIT Campus affiliated to the University of Westminster, following a degree in Software Engineering. At the time Nimashi was yet learning the ropes of the corporate world. The guidance and experience she received at IIT paved the way for her to have a bright and successful career.Nimashi

Today, Nimashi is employed as a Senior Executive in Business Consulting at Virtusa. Her passion to break new ground, her thirst for success and her dedication to make her mark in the corporate field is a tale filled with inspiration.

“Coming in from IIT, Virtusa was an amazing experience. I was here during my industrial training year and I was offered a job directly as a Software Engineer as soon as I graduated and then changed my path to Business Consulting. Already having a year of experience up my sleeve, I was able to fit right in and feel at home once I rejoined,” Nimashi speaking of her experience following life after graduation said.

“From the nursery onwards till A/L’s, I schooled at Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya. As a child I wanted to become a lawyer or software engineer. This was identified by my mom who encouraged me to start my IT education. I started my higher education by following a Foundation Certificate in Higher Education at IIT which was followed by the BEng (Hons) Software Engineering Degree. This is one of the main milestones in my life as my ambition was to become a Software Engineer,” she said.

Nimashi who was an all-round student at the time had taken part in many extracurricular activities and as a member of the IIT Student Union; she helped organize the Annual IIT Graduation Ball and many other sporting events for the Campus. She has also bagged several awards for winning against other universities and institutes in Carram.

“I greatly enjoyed my time at IIT from the academic life to all the extra-curricular activities. The academic staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, providing valuable insights into the course content and they were always ready to guide us in the right direction with our studies. I was also a team member of the netball team which has had many successful tournaments. Athletics is something I enjoyed participating in and was able to take part in the annual meets. I’m also enthusiastic about music and dancing and therefore I was a member of the Kandyan dancing team and during the final year I performed a Bollywood dance where the team became runner-up at the Stage Craft, the annual talent show of IIT. I was also an active member of the IIT choir,” she said.

“IIT provides the best standards in university education in the field of IT. Keeping close ties with the research community and the IT industry, IIT provides the best path for students to follow their aspirations based on their preferences. I found it very easy to transition in to my employment at Virtusa as the knowledge provided during my degree helped a great deal. The industrial placement programme which is amandatory part of the degree programmewas a great boon in entering into professional work during the degree itself,” she said.

“My main goal is to start my MBA soon and complete it so that it will be another pillar of success for me in my career. I would really work hard and gain enough experience to start up my own software company so that I will be able to utilize my leadership skills more on doing what I love and adore,” Nimashi said.

IIT graduates have a 100% employment guarantee as the students have been given valuable work experience during their placement year. With its strong international affiliations, outstanding resources and focus on quality higher education, IIT is without a doubt an ideal place for students to obtain world renowned IT and Business degrees.
