Cost of Education and Living In Sri Lanka

Students studying at IIT, Sri Lanka save almost 72% on fees which would have been paid to study in the UK. Currently a UK fee for an international student on average is about GBP 12,500 per year.

Living expenses for a student studying in UK in London will be required to have a minimum of GBP 14,000 per year as compared to cost of living in Sri Lanka, depending on individual lifestyle; will be about US$ 4,500 per year.


There are many private residences providing lodging facilities exclusively to Female students and exclusively to Male students located in the byroads and lanes leading up to the main Galle Road within a two kilometers radius of the IIT Campus. There are concentrations of residences accommodating students near the Campus to the West, North and South of the Campus.

Private residences are also rented to student groups.

Student Visa

Onece you have been accepted to study at IIT, you will be required to make payments for registration fee, 50% of cource fees and visit application fee.


Visa Application Fee: US$ 10.00


You will be required to travel to the nearest Sri Lanka High Commission or Embassy to get the visa stamped on your passport before arrival.


Please note for application of student visa,you will not be permitted to apply for visit visa online.

You can submit visa application to the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Colombo.

A request letter from the Academic institution.

Recommendation from the relevant Embassy / High Commission.

Encashment receipts to the value of US$ 1500/- for a year per person.

Your residence visa is valid for one year or for a period recommended by the Institution/ High commission or Embassy.

It can be renewed annually.
