85 students take first steps towards a world-class British degree
Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT), recently held its Foundation Awards ceremony for students who have successfully completed the “Foundation Certificate in Higher Education”, a Media release stated.
The event was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) Colombo 7 with the participation of IIT staff, students, parents and well-wishers.
All 85 students who had successfully completed the Foundation Certificate course were felicitated at the event and will be eligible to follow the University of Westminster internal undergraduate degree programmes in Software Engineering, Business Information Systems, Computer Science or Business Management.
J.K.D.R. Jayasekara from September 2017 Batch and B.K.C. Bhareti from January 2018 Batch were presented with the ‘Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe Prize for Outstanding Achievement’.
The Chief Guest was Fonterra Director Sales and Marketing Customer Marketing Roshan De Silva who has over 17 years experience in sales and marketing in multinational FMCG companies with exposure across Asian markets.
Expressing his views, De Silva emphasized on the importance of IT in today’s competitive business environment and how his memorable experience as a student at IIT shaped his view of the corporate world, laid the foundation for his success and helped him excel in his sales and marketing career.
The release also mentioned that, IIT’s Foundation Programme in IT and Business offers a unique opportunity for students who have completed their O/Ls and A/Ls to follow internal British degrees.
The one year Foundation Programmes are designed to fast track students to progress to their internal British degree. They cater to A/L students who are unable to enter a local university and for students who wish to commence their higher education just after O/L.
Addressing the audience IIT Dean, Naomi Krishnarajah stated, “your success in the Foundation course proves that you have the ability to reach greater heights in the years to come. It is a moment IIT will cherish to witness you continue your education as you progress to the undergraduate programmes. The next four years at IIT will no doubt be a memorable journey with the staff guiding you.”
She continued by adding, “education is more than imparting knowledge, developing thinking and working skills. It plays an important role in the building of character of a person. Apart from academic studies, IIT has a wide range of activities through which you will be trained to face the challenges in the world of work, life and make an impact.”
