Minoli Perera is an all-round graduate from IIT who has achieved much success following graduation. Minoli is currently employed as a Senior Software Engineer at WSO2, which is a leading multinational company that specializes in open source technology. Following are excerpts of the interview with Minoli who shared her thoughts on her journey towards corporate success

1. Can you give a brief introduction to yourself?
I am a past pupil of Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya and Visakha Vidyala. I graduated with first class hours in Software Engineering in 2016. Currently, I work as a Senior Software Engineer specializing in User Interface and User Experience design at WSO2.
2. What made you decide to follow your higher education at IIT?
After completing my Advanced Level exams, my parents and I were looking for a reputed institute to pursue my higher education in the IT field as I had an affinity for the field. IIT was highly recommended by my relatives and friends who were in the IT industry for the quality of their graduates and the international recognition of the degree.
3. How was the student life and experience at IIT?
Even though IIT prioritize in education, they also focus on making students all-round performers. They actively encourage students to engage in extra-curricular activities and events. I myself took part in our annual sports meet, cutting edge exhibition and the talent show which is called Stage Craft. We enjoyed participating in these activities and we were able to create unforgettable memories and make a lot of new friends.
4. What are your notable achievements at IIT?
I was awarded the Dr.Gamini Wickramasinghe Gold Medal for Academic Excellence in Computing in the academic year 2015/2016. This award is special to me as it is a result of four years of hard work and dedication. A very special thanks goes to my parents for their love and unwavering support throughout the years, to my final year supervisor, all the lecturers, teachers, family and friends.
During my second year, I participated in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Global Competition. At this competition, my team was awarded an honorable mention in the innovation category; for our project blueprint. Also, I have won medals in carrom, table tennis and badminton tournaments.
5. Has IIT shaped you for corporate success?

6. What are your reasons to recommend IIT to students from your school?
The degree structure comprises of a selected number of modules which focus on improving students’ overall technical knowledge as well as building soft skills. IIT has many experienced and talented lecturers to deliver course content in a way that students can grasp easily. Students get to join clubs such as rotaract and toastmasters to improve their non-academic skills further. The academic staff at IIT strongly encourage all students to take part in both local and international competitions for the sake of the students’ growth.
When it comes to career-wise support IIT helps its undergraduates and graduates find suitable opportunities like internships or employment by organizing career days where they get to meet and discuss their career options with potential employers from leading IT and business related companies.
7. What are your fondest moments at IIT?
I will always cherish the wonderful memories that I had with my friends during those years.
I have made many lifelong friends, and most importantly, I found my life partner from IIT.
8. Can you describe the support you received from the staff and the faculty of IIT?
We received immense support and guidance from IIT staff throughout the four years of our degree and even after my degree for other academic work. All the lecturers were dedicated to teach and help us with course content and was reachable when we needed their guidance. Non-academic staff made sure all necessary resources are provided to carry out our academic as well as extra-curricular work without interruptions. A special note must be made regarding my final year project supervisor Mr. Cassim Farook, who supported me to successfully complete my project and for encouraging me to publish my research work. I am truly grateful for everyone at IIT for all their hard work and dedication which helped to make my university life a truly memorable one.
