Cyber Foraging: What has been missing?

Abstract

To avoid the state of being disconnected, portable devices had been invented; and they were continuously enhanced to fulfill the contrasting needs in mobility, and to perform intensive tasks. These intensive tasks drain too much of power, which can be seen as a key limitation of mobile devices. Cyber Foraging – which discusses the balance between the task intensity and the power consumption – can be considered a key solution to this problem; and it had been focused by many noticeable research work, published in last few decades. The purpose of this paper is to analyze some popular solutions in the domain, identify their drawbacks, and address what is missing in each approach, which impact the performance and the efficiency. We hope to utilize this knowledge to design an architectural style, which can fill the gaps in available solutions.
