Toastmasters Club

IIT Toastmasters Exco 2015

A Toastmaster, in a literal sense, is a person who leads at public speaking events. Toastmasters International is a global non-profit organization begun in 1930 by Ralph C. Smedly to help its members to excel in communication, public speaking and leadership skills. With the first Toastmasters Club, Smedly Chapter One Club, started a new chapter of Toastmasters International with over 14,350 clubs in 122 different countries and counting. At Toastmasters we learn constantly to develop communication and leadership skills, and unlike other clubs, at the end of the day, members are awarded with valuable Competent Communicator (CC) and Competent Leader (CL) certifications and more. These certifications are extremely valuable in real life and the skills you gain in Toastmasters is a key to a new world where you are able to speak anywhere, to inspire and to make new contacts. The Toastmasters Club is a supportive team, where all the members help each other to achieve a common good.

The IIT Toastmasters Club officially commenced in March 2014 and the club belongs to “Area C2 Division C.”  The club was initiated with the support of our lecturer Shyani Siriwardene and our Toastmaster Sriyanthi Salgado.
