There are many private residences providing lodging facilities exclusively to Female students and exclusively to Male students located in the byroads and lanes leading up to the main Galle Road within a two kilometers radius of the IIT Campus. There are concentrations of residences accommodating students near the Campus to the West, North and South of the Campus.

Private residences are also rented to student groups.
