Join the inaugural IIT – RGU Webinar, celebrating 10 years of successful collaboration between IIT and Robert Gordon University, and hear directly from IIT graduates currently pursuing PhD research in Generative AI, reasoning, and responsible AI systems.

The session will explore how their academic journey through RGU-awarded degree programmes at IIT has developed into pioneering research focused on improving the capabilities, reliability, and evaluation of Generative AI.

Featured Researchers

Yohan Don
Exploring ontological and dialogical reasoning to structure interactions with large language models.

Lasal Jayawardena
Building capabilities to maintain evidence and provenance information within generative AI workflows.

Ramitha Abeyratne
Researching alignment strategies for evaluating generative AI outcomes.

Session Chair

Dr Kyle Martin
An established researcher in personalised and responsible AI and Co-Director of the PATH Research Centre at Robert Gordon University.

During the Webinar

Participants will gain insights into:

  • Emerging research areas in Generative AI and reasoning
  • How Large Language Models can be supported through structured reasoning approaches
  • Evidence, provenance, and reliability within Generative AI workflows
  • Approaches to evaluating and aligning Generative AI outputs
  • Pathways from undergraduate and postgraduate study at IIT to advanced AI research
  • Research opportunities available through the long-standing IIT–RGU academic partnership

Yohan Don and Lasal Jayawardena graduated with First Class Honours from the BSc Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme, while Ramitha Abeyratne graduated with Distinction from the MSc Big Data Analytics programme. All three qualifications were awarded by Robert Gordon University (RGU) and completed at IIT Sri Lanka.
