IIT celebrates 35 Years of Excellence at the Annual IIT University of Westminster Convocation 2025

IIT celebrates the 2025 IIT–UoW Graduation Ceremony, marking 35 years of excellence in British higher education in Sri Lanka. Distinguished leaders from the University of Westminster honoured graduates from the School of Computing and Business School.

On 13th November 2025, the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) proudly celebrated its 31st graduation ceremony in conjunction with the 18th University of Westminster (UoW) Convocation in Sri Lanka, awarding degrees, diplomas and certificates to 804 outstanding graduates from the School of Computing and the Business School. From the School of Computing, 692 graduates received their degrees—532 undergraduates and 160 postgraduates—while the Business School celebrated 112 graduates, comprising 101 undergraduates and 11 postgraduates.

The event took place at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) and was attended by Dr Peter Bonfield, Vice-Chancellor and President of UoW, alongside graduands, proud parents, esteemed academic staff, and IIT leadership. The convocation proceedings began with a formal declaration, followed by a welcome address from Prof P.S.M. Gunaratne, Dean of the Business School. Mr Hiran Wickramasinghe, Group Managing Director of the Informatics Group of Companies, introduced Dr Bonfield, highlighting the 20-year partnership between IIT and UoW.

Graduates received degrees across a range of future-ready ICT and Business programmes, including BEng (Hons) Software Engineering, BSc (Hons) Computer Science, BSc (Hons) Business Information Systems, BA (Hons) Business Management, BSc (Hons) Business Data Analytics, MSc Advanced Software Engineering, MSc Cyber Security and Forensics, MSc Information Technology, and MA Fashion Business Management. Additionally, students were awarded Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates in Advanced Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Forensics, Information Technology, and Fashion Business Management, recognising further specialisation and achievement. The largest number of undergraduates graduated from Software Engineering and Computer Science, while most postgraduates were from the MSc Advanced Software Engineering programme.

Since its founding, IIT has consistently produced graduates who succeed both in Sri Lanka and internationally. Many alumni now hold senior positions in leading organisations, have launched their own businesses, or are building successful careers abroad—demonstrating the institute’s commitment to providing high-quality British higher education in ICT and Business.

Supported by proud families, academic staff, and leadership, this convocation was a true celebration of dedication, achievement, and promise. It showcased the institute’s legacy of excellence and highlighted graduates ready to become the next generation of ICT and Business leaders, prepared to make their mark on the world.
