The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) held the 8th Graduation Ceremony of Robert
Gordon University (RGU) on 06th December 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial
International Conference Hall (BMICH). This ceremony was special because it also included
the second batch of students graduating from the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Artificial
Intelligence & Data Science programme. The event brought together graduands, their
families, academic staff, and industry leaders to celebrate the hard work and achievements
of the students.

The convocation was officially declared by Ms Donella Beaton, the Vice Principal for
Economic Development at Robert Gordon University. She attended the event as the chief
guest and represented RGU’s strong partnership with IIT. The ceremony began with a
welcome speech by Dr Naomi Krishnarajah, Dean of the School of Computing, who
congratulated the graduates on their dedication. After this, Mr Hiran Wickramasinghe,
Group Managing Director of the Informatics Group of Companies, introduced Ms Beaton
and spoke about the importance of the collaboration between IIT and RGU.

Degrees were awarded in the following order: BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence & Data
Science, MSc in Big Data Analytics, and MSc in Business Analytics. These programmes focus
on skills that are in high demand around the world. During the ceremony, Dr Gamini
Wickramasinghe, Founder and Chairman of the Informatics Group, presented Gold Medals
for Outstanding Achievements to students who produced the best final year projects.

 

The BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence & Data Science programme saw strong results this year. There were 16 graduates with First Class Honours, 32 with Second Class Honours
(First Division), 14 with Second Class Honours (Second Division), 2 with Third Class
Honours, and 2 who received the BSc degree without honours. These results showed the
commitment and talent of the students in this growing field.

The MSc in Big Data Analytics also had many successful graduates. There were 13
Distinctions, 17 Merits, and 37 Passes. In addition, the Postgraduate Diploma in Big Data
Analytics recorded 1 Distinction, 1 Merit, and 9 Passes, while the Postgraduate Certificate
in Big Data Analytics produced 3 Distinctions, 1 Merit, and 5 Passes. These achievements
reflect the strong demand for data analytics skills in the industry.

The MSc in Business Analytics programme produced 13 Distinctions, 9 Merits, and 52
Passes. The Postgraduate Diploma in Business Analytics had 6 Distinctions, 9 Merits, and
11 Passes, while the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Analytics saw 8 Passes. These
graduates are prepared to support organisations by using data to make effective business
decisions.

The ceremony highlighted IIT’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality British
degrees in Sri Lanka. Graduates from both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
are now ready to start their careers in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science,
analytics, and digital technologies. Many of them will join leading companies, begin new
research, or start their own businesses. The 2025 RGU–IIT graduation ceremony was a
celebration of the hard work, determination, and future potential of all the graduates.
