The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) proudly congratulates Team Zeptaz on securing first place at the IgnitX 2026 Hackathon, organised by HUTCH, and winning a prize of LKR 500,000.
Representing IIT, the four-member team comprised Tevin Silvester, Naveen Harry, Jayith Wejethunge and Ojith Adhithya, students from the September 2023 intake.
Competing under Track A – Resolve & Support, Team Zeptaz developed HUTCH Resolve, an AI-powered solution designed to support the resolution of customer complaints by analysing evidence associated with each case. The solution also incorporates a voice assistant, allowing customers to access support through spoken interactions.
The team presented their solution alongside strong competitors representing leading Sri Lankan universities, including the University of Moratuwa, University of Ruhuna and University of Sri Jayewardenepura, before emerging as the overall winner of their track.
The achievement reflects the importance of combining academic knowledge with practical problem-solving and innovation. Team Zeptaz highlighted the knowledge and experience gained through IIT’s Software Development Group Project (SDGP) module as an important part of their journey towards this accomplishment.
The students also expressed their appreciation to IIT’s lecturers and faculty for their continued support, with special recognition given to Mr. Banu Athuraliya for his additional guidance and encouragement throughout the competition and their journey at IIT.
Student projects, hackathons and practical industry challenges form an important part of demonstrating what IIT students can build beyond the classroom, reinforcing IIT’s focus on showcasing real student work and outcomes.
IIT congratulates Tevin, Naveen, Jayith and Ojith on this outstanding achievement and wishes Team Zeptaz continued success as they take their ideas, skills and innovations forward.
