Since its inception as a pioneer higher education institute in Sri Lanka that offers internal degrees in the disciplines of Information Technology and Business, many IIT graduates have annexed themselves in eminent positions by being innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Dinali Cooray is a past pupil of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya. She graduated from IIT with a University of Westminster, BSc (Hons) Information Systems with Business Management Degree. Dinali is currently employed at attune Lanka (Pvt) Ltd as an Associate Consultant. Dinali sharing her thoughts spoke about her academic journey at IIT. Excerpts of her interview are as follows:

Achieves success and progress in corporate world

Eshara Fonseka is an enterprising young IIT graduate who has achieved much success in her career in a short span. She is a past pupil of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya and is currently Director – Sales for WSO2 Lanka (Pvt) Limited. Eshara graduated from IIT in 2010 with an Information Systems with Business Management (ISBM) degree from University of Westminster.

Shehani Seneviratne is an IIT graduate who has made strides in Sri Lanka’s IT industry. She is a past pupil of Bishop’s College, Colombo  and is currently the Chief Operating Officer at 99X Technology Ltd which is a premiere software product engineering company based in Sri Lanka. Over the years, Shehani has achieved much success in the corporate world and has bagged several accolades. She received the Award for ‘Leadership excellence in Information Technology’ at ‘Women for Governance – Professional and career women awards’ by Women in Management and SLASSCOM Industry Leadership Award in 2015. She also spearheaded the operations for 99X Technology to be the first company in Sri Lanka to be CMMi certified.Continue reading

IIT basketball team wins Gold Medal at UITM International Sports Fiesta in Malaysia

The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) emerged winners at the Eleventh UITM International Sports Fiesta 2016 tournament held in Selangore, Malaysia recently.IIT clinched victory and was awarded the Gold Medal by defeating Diliman College University, Philippines at a closely fought final game. IIT scored 66 points while Diliman College scored 54 points in the final game.

The universities and institutes that participated are Diliman College University- Philippines, University Trisakthi – Indonesia, SLIIT -Sri Lanka, Philippines College Foundation University – Philippines,  Perbanas Institute -Indonesia, Sindhi College University- India, University Technology Mara- Malaysia,  Singapore Management University -Singapore and IIT – Sri Lanka.

Sportsmen and women from several countries in South Asia represented their respective universities and higher education institutes in Rugby, Futsal, Tenpin Bowling, Badminton, Tennis, Basketball, Table Tennis and Netball at the annual UITM International Sports Fiesta.

The IIT basketball squad was represented by MinulWimalagunaratne ( Captain ), SameeraSenarath, Gayan Andrew, SandeepaRatnayake, Tarindu Fernando, TushanDharmasena, LakshanSamarasinghe, KasunChanakaRatnayake, Pramod Kumara, RajithaTennakoon, KulaminaSanjeewa  and Andrew Wijesuriya,

“Our basketball team embarked on this tour with much optimism and confidence based on their performance last year. I would like to thank the coach and team consisting of present national players on their excellent performance. Their hard work and commitment has led to their outstanding results in such a relatively short period to win the first ever international gold medal championship from any format of the game in the history of university sports in this country,” Chinthaka De Silva, Group Sports and Wellness Consultant for IIT said.

At last year’s UITM International Sports Fiesta, IIT took part in both rugby and basketball and emerged runner up in rugby and came in third place for basketball. IIT also won the Fastbreak 2016 basketball tournament to add to the recent successes.

Victory for IIT at annual cricket match against SAITM

The IIT cricket team displayed an all-round performance filled with consistency and class, which led to them securing a outstanding victory against SAITM in their Annual Cricket Encounter which was held atSt Peters College, Bambalapitiya recently.

IIT decided to bat first after winning the toss and scored 265/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Following an impressive display of batting, IIT was able to bowl SAITM out for 233 runs in 48.3 overs.

Pasindu Acharige from IIT was judged as the Man of the Match. Navoda Gunasekara (SAITM) received the Best Batsman Award while Asanka Rantilakage (SAITM) received the Best Fielder Award. Suboda Didulaka(IIT) bagged the Best Bowler Award.

 

 

IIT emerge victorious at Fastbreak 2016 Basketball Tournament

Fastbreak 2k16The basketball team of the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) emerged victorious at the IIT Fastbreak 2016 tournament held at HSC Blues Basketball Court in Colombo recently.
Under the University Category, IIT clinched victory by defeating ANC 14-11 in an extremely closely fought game.
IIT players Thushan Perera scored 6 points, AshanKaveesha scored 5 and PramodChanaka scored3 points which contributed in their victory.

Informatics Institute of Technology- IIT, the pioneer in private higher education offering international degrees, announced a partnership agreement with Deakin University, one of Australia’s most respected and awarded   centres of higher education. This is seen as a first step in much broader strategic partnership that will involve collaboration in research and industry placement exchange programmes.

Initially the tie up offers local students a pathway to the Deakin Bachelors in Information Technology degree and prepares them for a global future. IIT students who have completed Diploma of Computing, at IIT’s campus in Colombo can apply to complete the next 2 years at a Deakin campus in Australia.  It is estimated a third of the costs amounting to 5-6 million Rupees can be saved by students choosing this option.
