VisioNEX 2026 Brings the Future of School Innovation to Galle

Held on 31 July 2026 at the Galle Town Hall, VisioNEX Interschool Hackathon 2026 brought together talented school students, educators, technology enthusiasts and members of the community for a day dedicated to innovation, creativity and the future of technology.

Organised by the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT), VisioNEX created an opportunity for young minds to move beyond conventional classroom learning and demonstrate how technology can be applied to ideas, challenges and opportunities relevant to the world around them.

The event featured an Innovation Exhibition from 10.00 AM to 2.00 PM, where participating students showcased projects, concepts and technology-driven solutions developed through creativity, teamwork and technical exploration. Visitors were able to interact with the young innovators, learn about their ideas and experience first-hand the enthusiasm and potential of Sri Lanka’s next generation of technology talent.

The exhibition provided students with more than an opportunity to display their work. Presenting their projects to an external audience encouraged them to explain their thinking, respond to questions, communicate technical concepts and demonstrate the practical value of their solutions.

The day continued with the Hackathon Finale and Award Ceremony from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM, bringing the competition to an exciting conclusion. Finalist teams demonstrated their ability to think critically, collaborate effectively and develop innovative responses within a competitive environment.

VisioNEX was designed to encourage students to develop skills that are becoming increasingly important in a technology-driven world. Through ideation, problem-solving, teamwork, presentation and experimentation, participants were able to experience the process of taking an idea from concept towards a tangible solution.

The event also gave visitors an opportunity to witness how rapidly the interests and capabilities of school students are evolving across areas of technology and innovation. The projects presented at VisioNEX reflected the curiosity, creativity and willingness of young people to explore emerging possibilities and challenge conventional approaches to solving problems.

Beyond the competition itself, VisioNEX represented IIT’s broader commitment to supporting technology education and creating meaningful opportunities for school students to engage with innovation from an early stage.

By creating platforms outside the traditional classroom environment, IIT aims to help young people gain greater exposure to technology, develop confidence in their abilities and recognise the academic and career possibilities available within fields such as computing, software engineering, artificial intelligence, data, business technology and other emerging disciplines.

Hosting VisioNEX in Galle also marked an important opportunity to bring a large-scale technology and innovation experience closer to school communities in the Southern region. Students, teachers, parents and visitors were able to experience a youth-focused technology showcase within their own region while connecting with a wider culture of innovation and higher education.

The enthusiasm demonstrated throughout the Innovation Exhibition and Hackathon Finale highlighted the importance of giving young innovators opportunities to experiment, collaborate and present their ideas to wider audiences.

For participating students, VisioNEX was not simply about winning a competition. It was an opportunity to learn through experience, test their abilities, strengthen their confidence and discover how their ideas could contribute to the future.

Through initiatives such as VisioNEX, Informatics Institute of Technology continues to strengthen its engagement with schools and young innovators across Sri Lanka, encouraging the next generation to explore technology not simply as users, but as creators, problem-solvers and future leaders.

VisioNEX 2026 brought the future of innovation to Galle – and gave the next generation of tech wizards a platform to step forward.
