The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT), together with the IIT Sports Council, successfully brought the spirit of fitness, unity and community engagement to the streets of Colombo through the IIT Road Race 2026 – GoMiles: Sports for Humanity.
Held on 12 July 2026, the road race commenced at 7.00 a.m. from the IIT Main Campus at 57, Ramakrishna Road, Colombo 06, and concluded at the IIT City Campus, taking participants along a vibrant route through Colombo, including Palmyrah Avenue.
The event was organised under the theme “Sports for Humanity”, highlighting the wider role of sport in building healthier individuals and stronger communities. Beyond promoting physical fitness, GoMiles 2026 aimed to raise awareness of the positive impact that regular physical activity can have on mental health, emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
Participants came together with a shared enthusiasm for running, wellness and community spirit. The event created an energetic and inclusive environment where individuals could challenge themselves, connect with others and experience the power of sport as a force for positive change.
Through initiatives such as GoMiles, IIT continues to encourage students and the wider community to embrace active lifestyles while recognising the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between physical and mental well-being.
The IIT Road Race 2026 also reflected the institution’s commitment to supporting student-led initiatives and creating opportunities that extend beyond academic development. By combining sport, social responsibility and community participation, the event delivered a meaningful message: sport is not only about competition, but also about unity, resilience and humanity.
GoMiles 2026 marked another memorable milestone for the IIT community, bringing Colombo’s streets alive with determination, energy and the shared belief that every step can contribute towards a healthier and more connected society.
