Lahiru Lakmal Priyadarshana, a student of Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT), won the Gold Award in the Tertiary Category as well as the award for the Best Product developed using Open Source Tools for his iDisplay project. The latter was introduced for the first time at NBQSA. Amani Soysa, also a student of IIT, was awarded the Bronze for her Chord A Tune Project. Lahiru and Amani won these awards competing with the cream of software engineering students from more than five state universities and private institutes.

- Stage Craft – the annual extravaganza of IIT students’ artistic and creative endeavours was held on 15th January 2010 at the Bishop's College Auditorium.

In keeping with the tradition, this year’s Student's Carol service was held on 17th December at IIT.

- In June 2009, IIT presented its annual Cutting Edge exhibition. The projects displayed focused on themes such as Surface Computing, Web Services, Multimedia, Mobile Applications, Artificial Intelligence and Embedded Systems. Virtusa awarded the trophies for academic excellence for the best three Software Engineering projects which were judged by the BCS team. Informatics (Pvt) Ltd (IPL) awarded trophies for the best three Business projects.

Awards - QuizFun, in IEEE journal
- "QuizFun : mobile based quiz game for learning," a paper presented at IEEE, T4E Workshop by IIT students, was published in the IEEE journal.
